Art, Architecture, Science Oh My!

  This is the statue of David, one of Michelangelo's most famous sculptures. It was made in an act of defiance against the Medici family to show Florence's independence. It was later known as the symbol of Florence. This created harmonious mood of hate.
These are just a few of the magnifico (magnificent in Italian)  frescoes painted inside the Vatican.
  This is Brunelleschi's piece de resistance, the dome on the Cathedral of Florence. It used over four million bricks to build, and it had no support structures such as scaffolding. Under the patronage of the Medici he was able to accomplish the impossible.

These are known as some of the most amazing frescoes ever made. Michelangelo made these inside of the Sistine Chapel, one of the Medici's own buildings.









 This was Galileo, one of the greatest scientists ever. He invented the telescope and used it to find many planets, stars, and even change the way we thought about the moon! He found out many things regarding gravity, motion, and astronomy.
 During the renaissance everybody thought that the universe revolved around Earth. When Galileo made a theory about the earth revolving around the sun, he put it in a book with fictional characters and made sure that the church was okay with its contents. After it was published a group of high rank church officials, called the Roman Inquisition, saw that he was telling people something that the church taught was wrong. They put him under house arrest for the rest of his life for him thinking differently.
